Funds five new echocardiogram systems
One of the Foundation's top priorities for 2019 is funding the purchase of 5 new echocardiogram ultrasound systems for patients at Palomar Medical Center Escondido and Palomar Medical Center Poway.
An echocardiogram, or "echo," uses ultrasound to create a detailed moving image of the heart, including its chambers, valves and blood vessels. The test can identify many kinds of heart disease, including valve disease, myocardial disease, pericardial disease, congenital heart disease or infective endocarditis.
Thanks to the generous support of donors, Palomar Health Foundation has raised $705,000 of the $1 million needed to purchase these 5 systems.
With this new 4D equipment, doctors can see even greater detail than older 3D and 2D machines while eliminating the need for a CT scan, exposure to radiation and numerous other tests.
Because this technology brings about such a great leap in patient comfort and care, the Foundation has decided to purchase the systems for immediate use. At Palomar Health, each system can prevent as many as 10 patients per week from having to undergo invasive exploratory surgery.
