COVID-19 Emergency Appeal

Palomar Health faces unplanned costs related to coronavirus outbreak

So far, our community has been spared the worst of this pandemic, thanks in part to your efforts at physical distancing.

However, we must continue to be vigilant and remain prepared. Palomar Health has rapidly worked to increase our capacity to accommodate COVID-19 patients safely and in isolation from other patients. This ramp-up has come at a staggering cost, though.

We have spent millions of dollars to purchase critical supplies of masks, isolation gowns, testing supplies and personal protective equipment. We have experienced new labor and facilities expenses in constructing screening areas, respiratory isolation tents and negative-pressure hospital rooms for COVID-19 patients.

Because many elective surgeries were canceled, Palomar Health is dealing with a major loss of revenue. It's hard to predict how long we will have to operate in this emergency mode.

Today, we are asking you to make a gift to our COVID-19 emergency fund. Your donation will help Palomar Health address our most immediate needs related to this crisis. That includes funding for the equipment and personnel needed to identify, isolate and treat coronavirus patients and prevent the virus from spreading.

Since the start of this emergency, we have seen our employees and the community bravely step up to confront the challenge of coronavirus. The Foundation’s Board of Directors recently authorized a special contribution of $500,000 from reserve funds in the Foundation to Palomar Health to help manage the crisis. Our Board members have committed to personally pledge their own financial support and challenge others to do the same.

We are humbled by your outpouring of generosity and invite you to join in the effort. Your gift will immediately help Palomar Health perform at its highest level and remain ready to serve the community at this critical time. Thank you for considering how you can help.

For questions about this fund, contact Sonia Lopez at (760) 739-2785 or Sonia.Lopez@palomarhealth.org.

We are also gratefully accepting supplies. Heather Woodling at Heather.Woodling@palomarhealth.org or (760) 480-7951 can tell you how your donation of supplies will help us fight the epidemic.

Thank you for your support!
